KNNX DSD Delivering Early Value

Direct Store Delivery (DSD), a key retail distribution strategy to enable On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) product availability, is widely accepted as a win-win proposition for retailers and suppliers. KNNX DSD is a distributed network of retailers and suppliers, simplifying the adoption of the Direct Store Delivery Model. A dynamic and intelligent end-to-end Direct Store Delivery Platform, KNNX DSD helps reduce product substitution and accelerate time to shelf. The self-learning platform enables end-to-end visibility providing an intuitive experience, in-built smart logic, real-time insights, and notifications.

Since its launch with Walmart Canada, KNNX DSD has made great strides, rapidly expanding its business network. Some of the world’s leading brands are on board with KNNX DSD. It is an opportune time to take a step back and assess the early value delivered by the platform to its stakeholders.

A Rapidly Expanding Network:

  • In just four months, the KNNX DSD network has seen some impressive statistics.
  • One hundred fifty suppliers and 130 merchandisers were onboarded
  • Over 26,000 schedules and 1 million deliveries

The KNNX DSD Impact

We can slice and dice the data coming from the platform in different ways – by jurisdiction, by product, by supplier, by time of delivery, or by the store to better understand consumer trends and interactions at the store level. This provides great insights into how to reduce product substitution and ensure products reach shelves in a timely manner. KNNX DSD provides a snapshot view of important product substitution metrics both from supplier and retailer perspectives.

There are many ways to inject information into the suppliers’ platform instead of just mailing excel sheets to the retailer. Once the supplier or merchandiser uploads a schedule, the schedule is optimized, and a workflow is triggered. The workflow propagates visibility on delivery to every region and every store in the region. Even though each supplier can know the delivery schedule at a store, they will be able to view only their schedule, thereby ensuring security and privacy of data. Each store can clearly see who is delivering what and when. More than four hundred workflows are managed across the Walmart network, including supplier and merchandiser workflows. Each workflow has metrics that come out of it, including product quantity, commodity type, scheduled and actual time of delivery, and specialized equipment or delivery needs.

The advantage of the KNNX DSD does not lie in the scheduler feature alone and extends much beyond.  The platform prioritizes and sequences deliveries based on several business factors, such as seasonal promotions, commodity type, customer buying trends, and on-time percentage.
